Enthusiasts of Volkswagen & Audi
In 1955, a few drivers of that new, funny-looking German import banded together to form an organization. (That same year also saw the VW importer open offices on these shores.) Members attracted members as Beetle owners learned of the considerable advantages of being associated with like-minded people. As the number of different kinds of VWs increased, local VWCA chapters sprang up in cities from coast to coast. The club embraced the new water-cooled cars even before discontinuation of Beetle sales in the United States. In 1979, VWCA absorbed the Frontdriver Club, thereby encompassing new owners of front-drive VWs and Audis. With more VWs and Audis on the road each day, the VWCA is here to stay!
Consistent with our club's motto of "helping VW and Audi owners enjoy their cars to the fullest," VWCA's many functions include the Tourist Information Network, to aid members while traveling; the Friends of Our Club listing of dealers and firms offering discounts on parts, service and accessories to members; advice from knowledgeable members; sources for purchasing of hard-to-find parts; an active safety program; regalia and special purchases. Annual get-togethers consist of the National Convention, Maifest and Oktoberfest. Events held nationwide include rallyes, gymkhanas and customizing competitions. Trips and caravans are scheduled. Some local clubs sponsor additional events, and there is active competition for the best local club award.
If your VW or Audi gives you a good feeling, and you would like to share this with others while learning more about your jewel, then VWCA is the club for you! It's the place to exchange parts, find accessories and trade ideas. Whether you own a split-window or the latest marvel from Puebla, you'll get news you can use: overseas versions, recalls, history, maintenance and special fixes. Local chapters don't just sponsor contests and pass out trophies; their members can give mutual assistance along with good fellowship and cooperate with local dealers and other VW suppliers to keep you well-informed on the best care for your car at the lowest price.
Club Publications
Local club newsletters keep you posted on regional events. The heart of VWCA is the VW Autoist, bringing the news to members worldwide six times a year. Contributing members fill their regular columns with useful information on all VWs and Audis. A typical issue might include instructions for adding fog lights to your Fox, a history of the Ghia, bolting a turbo to your diesel or replacing a Beetle pan. The latest from Europe is translated and summarized, while important overseas works are sometimes reprinted. Readers' letters are printed, and members are encouraged to submit articles. Advertisers unveil their latest, and members can place classified ads for free.
